Views on President Bush

by Bob Schmidt

Before passing judgment on President Bush, or any politician, consider the demands made upon them. Each political party has an agenda, and each politician has a voter base to try to please. Add to that, they each have personal beliefs and goals which have inspired them to spend their time in public service.

President Bush serves us as a man of traditional, conservative values. There have been no surprises as to his policies excepting his willingness to spend beyond what was expected by his constituency. He has lowered taxes, managed a growing economy, and been a decisive leader in defending the interests of the United States.

Opponents of President Bush are often "over the line" in their condemnation of the job that he is doing. Although they seize the American involvement in Iraq as their talking point presently, their criticism of him would exist regardless of the War on Terror. We live in the most divisive times ever in American politics, in my opinion. Conservative vs liberal, traditionalist vs social progressive, right vs left, or whatever; we are a divided country politically!

World conditions are constantly changing and shifting. As the lone super-power and defender of the "free" world, the United States is always going to be under attack from those envious of our freedom, wealth, and power. President Bush, I believe, is an innately good man burdened by the weight of a most difficult job. He is a patriot who I am proud to call my President, and I hope we do as well in our selection of our next president in 2008.
