With less than two years to go until the Mayan prophesized Doomsday; 2010 has been an eventful year. The closing of the decade is definitely getting its share of swan songs, but which songs had what it takes to be called the year’s best? The results, based on information gathered from billboard.com, may make your year.
10. Break Your Heart, performed by Taio Cruz featuring Ludacris, holds the number ten spot for the year’s best songs. Remember the name; you’ll be seeing it again soon as Taio is the only artist to appear on this list twice. This song rated a number one spot on the charts in the United States, United Kingdom, Canada and Switzerland as well as holding a place in the top ten in several other countries.
9. Dynamite, by Taio Cruz yet again, puts the British recording artist back to back with himself for the ninth and tenth best songs of the year. With this song we have further evidence of Cruz’s international appeal, rating number one single on the UK Singles Chart and the Canadian Hot 100 as well as topping charts in New Zealand, Australia, Belgium and Ireland. This song went gold in August, having sold more than 7,000 copies.
8. Bad Romance by Lady Gaga. The album title, The Fame Monster, describes Lady Gaga well. Appearing as an overnight sensation, Lady Gaga is changing the way we see fashion and music – for better or worse. Despite the song being a product of 2009 it still remains popular enough to earn itself a spot in the top ten songs of 2010.
7. Love the Way You Lie, by Eminem featuring Rihanna, adds further proof that Eminem is still a heavy contender. A lyrical ode to the dysfunctional relationship, the pair manages to deliver a powerful message and a catchy tune at the same time. This chart topper was nominated for many awards.
6. Airplanes by B.o.B featuring Hayley Williams. This song has it all: a great hook, passion and motivation. A splash of cold water in the face to the dreamer who waits for the dreams to fulfill themselves, B.o.B and Hayley experience the importance of effort and taking risks in a beautiful way.
5. OMG by Usher, featuring Will.i.am brings us to number five. This song also hit the charts on Hot Radio Songs, Dance Clubs Songs, Hot Latin Songs, Pop Songs, Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. The song also made it onto over 20 other charts internationally, and has been performed by the pair at music awards shows and on American Idol to positive reception.
4. California
