Her heart cries and her soul bleeds
As she sits alone in her widow’s weeds
No one understands her needs
Her cry for help no one heeds
Lost and alone, her loved ones gone
The grief has chilled her to the bone
Of friends and family, she has none
Nothing and no one to call her own
Her grief is not recent; it’s been years
Still she cries fresh painful tears
Daylight deters her exiting her home
In nighttime hours she walks alone
Loneliness and bereavement are her family
Her constant companion is her misery
Letting no one in to know or love her
Recall escapes her, her days are a blur
She lives in the past with her memories
A skulking shadow that no one sees
A waste of life, a shell of what was
Not taking pride in anything she does
The Walking Widow is how she’s known
To those who’ve witnessed her walking alone
In a cloak of darkness she continues her plight
And returns home before the end of night
When they lay her to rest on that final day
When the Lord comes to call her away
There’re those who believe she’ll continue these deeds
And walk in ghostly form in her widow’s weeds

Black is now my color,
way beyond
by Reggie Lutz
"The color black is not what it used to be,"
the widow sighs or sings.
Strangers think she is being fashionable
or lazy
Her heart cries and her soul bleeds
As she sits alone in her widow’s weeds
No one understands her needs
Her cry for
