Winter months can be a difficult time for families to get out of the house for activities. Snowstorms can keep a family stuck indoors with each other for days at a time. When the family is snowed in, it is the perfect time to create some great memories while waiting for the snow to be cleared. There are many things that a family can do to keep busy during a snow in. There is no way to tell how long it will be before the family can get back outdoors so making the best of the time that everyone is stuck inside is the only way to go.

Activities for families that are snowed in:

Crafts- There are many different crafts the family can do together when the snow is piling up outside. Keep craft materials and books around the house at all times because the snow might come when it is least expected. Make a piñata out of a balloon, flour and glue. Have the kids paint it and then fill it up with candy or other small toys. Put a string in it and hang it up in the basement for a fun game while the family is snowed in.

Cooking/Baking- Winter weather brings on warm feelings and memories of the smells of fresh baked corn bread and chili. Gather the children together and teach them how to cook some of your favorite wintertime foods. Chili is a great start along with corn bread. Bake a cake or make some fudge for desert. Baking a hot apple pie is a great family activity when snowed in as well. There are hundreds of cooking projects the family can be involved in.

Showtime- Encourage the children to be creative by putting on some type of a show. It could be a puppet show, but it doesn't have to be limited to that. The family could put on a talent show in the living room. It will be great fun watching as each family member gives their best in the talent show. One might dance and the other sing. There might just be a magician among the family as well. This is a great way to get the imagination going and to keep the family from becoming too bored while snowed in.

Board Games- Make sure that house is stocked with a lot of board games. Board games are great at passing the time when there is a big snowstorm. Breaking out old favorites and getting the family involved in one game will lead to another game and so forth. This is a great time for the family to have fun together and get a chance to talk as well. Scrabble and Monopoly are great games for teenagers. Candyland and Memory are great games for smaller children. The whole family will love playing classic board games during a snow in period.

Wii- Instead of letting the family sit around in front of the television or sitting at the computer, play an interactive game that keeps everyone on the move. Wii fit or other Wii games are a great way for the family to get some exercise, enjoy a little competition and have fun. This activity is great for families who are snowed in during the winter months.

Just because the family is snowed in doesn't mean that there isn't anything to do. Get a little creative by doing some of the activities listed above. Cabin fever can easily set in when sitting around the house doing nothing for too long. Get the family on the move, make them think and create. Snow in days should be fun and filled with memory making activities for the entire family.
