Things to put in a new home gift basket
Creating a gift basket for a friend or a family member who has moved into a new home is a special and sweet way to let them know you care. It’s also a good way to welcome new neighbors and get off on the right foot. Many handy items such as new small wastebaskets, serving bowls, or even a large lidded pot can replace a traditional basket and be useful to those receiving it.
Once you have found a basket to use, decide what will be most useful. Imagine it were you, what items would you find most helpful? There are some basic items that everybody can use but don’t get too generic. Let your personality shine through in the gift.
Everybody eats.
The gift of food is something that isn’t usually going to go bad. Make the basket up of candy, snacks, chips, crackers, or seasonal fruits. If you feel so inclined, bake a few batches of fresh cookies, cakes, or brownies to fill a basket.
Sometimes, the important stuff is easily forgotten.
A basket of handy items in case of emergencies is a must have. Include such items as a flashlight, candle, blanket, and bottles of water. This may seem like a silly gift but in the face of an emergency, it could be a lifesaver.
Cleaning items can be useful.
For friends that are moving into homes that will need work, a cleaning basket would be a great gift. Include items that will help make their work easier. Sponges, window cleaner, scrubbing bubbles, rubber gloves, and wood cleaner are always a big help.
Saving money is always nice.
Make a coupon basket. Clip coupons that you think they might use. Also include a gift certificate to a favorite destination if you are able to. Another great twist to a coupon basket is homemade ones for babysitting, help with housework, or anything else that could be useful.
Throw in something for everyone.
If you are making a gift basket for a family, throw in items that everyone can use. Board games and playing cards are always fun gifts. Toss in a candle, some hard candy, and other simple items.
It’s been said a million times that it is the thought that counts. This is truly the case. When someone knows you are thinking of them, words know no boundaries. Give a gift basket and show you care.
