What is music? From the opera house to the first hums of the smallest child, music is and always will be a major part in so many peoples life. But is it just noise? Is there more to it than just a simple beat and catchy rhythm? If so, what is the recipe for good music? Can anyone make music?
First and foremost, Music is more than just noise. Music, like all other forms of art, is a means to express ourselves. It can be used to show any emotion from appreciative to zealous and anything in between, around and inside of those subjects. Music is a piece of one's soul placed into rhythm and beat to from melodies in waves of emotion. Music is much more than simply banging on something, flailing your arms from side to side, or just strumming on a guitar. It's there to motivate us and help us with our daily lives.
Like the old expression says, "Music is food for the soul." Let's break that down, shall we? OK, so what is "food?" Seems like a simple enough question. Food is nourishment for your body. Your body takes the food you eat to form energy and that keeps us going throughout our daily lives. As for the soul? Your soul is you. Your life being. It's your right and wrong, black and white, yin and yang. Your very essence that carries you on, makes you wake up and pushes you to do better than the day before. So in essence, music energizes our souls whether we are in times of trouble or celebration. It's the breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's the kick of energy that we need to continue on with our lives. There's always that one song above all others. That one song so touching that when you hear it, you swear that the songwriter is speaking directly to you. The great part is that they might be talking to you. Just you. No one else. Isnt' that amazing?
So can anyone make music? The obvious answer is yes. Anyone can create music. It's as simple as picking up an instrument and practicing. But never give up. No one ever picked up an instrument and said, "Hmm... I think I'm going to be amazing at this today." It takes loads of time and practice. You have to study for hours at a time to find out what works for you. And that's why it's a peice of your soul, it takes so much effort and work.
With all that my answer to the question, "What is music?" is a simple one. Music simply is. Any country, state, providence, county, zip code, anywhere, anytime, any variations. And it binds us all together in an unbreakable glue. All in all, it's essential and we live it in all of our daily lives.
