Tips on making a house a home

by Christian Rios

Created on: December 18, 2010

A place once known as the pad, the chill spot, your crib; is now to be transformed into a comforting, sleek place of peace. This will now be you're home, and no longer your house. Where to start? First is first, and that is setting, atmosphere and square footage. What do you have to work with, and what type of genre or vibe do you want to incorporate into this new niche. This will all go into your new prerequisite planning guide to making this your home. You have to break down the process to simplify your life, and the complexity; while limiting the amount of stress all at the same time. We can have your home transformed in 4 simple stages.

 1) The Now

 2) The Dream

 3) The Plot

 4) The Glory

Most of you are probably thinking where I got those stages from, or questioning why I've named each stage with a strong title beginning with 'The'. Well the reasoning behind it is simple; it's a process in which you shall be acting upon throughout each and every step thoroughly, trying to create a marvelous end result in an exquisite elegant home of heroes. We'll start off by looking at the current situation:

STAGE ONE-The Now

You have to evaluate your current situation, and look at all of the pieces of your puzzle that you want to re-arrange or rid yourself of. You must also take the time to possibly check out ads, magazines, flyers for some suggestions and ideas in this transformation. What do you want to purchase that may change the genre of a specific room in your house? How will it change the vibe in that room, and what do you have to switch around? Maybe clean all of the walls, paint them a sky blue instead of stained white; and now you're looking at a clean, fun, outspoken room that can turn a frown upside down. Inspect your house, make a chart, and check mark all of the pros and cross out the cons. Eventually you'll draw out a master plan to achieve the next stage. The dream.

STAGE TWO-The Dream

What is it that you dream of in your dream home? Is it affordable to achieve such? Getting a tip from an interior designer can sometimes really expand your horizons on what you may want to change inside of your house, to give it more of a homely feeling.  Maybe you've always wanted beautiful hardwood floor in the living room and dining room areas, to replace the boring dull carpets you currently have there full of stains and dirt. Hardwood, and ceramic
