Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino has some of the most famous abs in America, as plugged in his workout DVD trailer. Mike is a breakout reality television star from MTV’s most popular series of all time, Jersey Shore, and has since been seen on several late night shows, Dancing with the Stars, in your local book store, iPhone App store, and more. Recently, The Situation released a workout DVD, and as someone who enjoys working out and the Jersey Shore, I decided to pick it up.
Originally, I saw this DVD on sale for around $10, so I figured I would take a chance and give it a try. I have to admit, originally I was slightly expected a not so serious workout, and more goofing around than actual working out, based on some reviews I had read online. Many of these reviews were actually based on opinions about Mike and the Jersey Shore, rather than the actual workout, as they written before the DVD was even released.
In reality, this workout DVD actually is pretty intense, and will definitely have you feeling sore if done correctly. The DVD consists of 5 15 minute sessions, including:
-Ripped Upper Body- Get large and in charge working the upper body with 3 sets of exercises focused on the chest, shoulders, and back
-Killer Arms- Star in your own gun show by working those biceps, triceps, forearms for explosive results
Juiced Glutes and Legs- Use dumbbells in these powerful plyometrics to get pumped lean legs
-Awesome Abs- Hit the floor for a six-pack producing abs routine
-Insane Abs- Step it up with this intense ab workout and serious Situation Starter!
Using a fairly light dumbbell for me, I found these exercises tiring of my muscles, and definitely felt sore the next day, despite the fact I didn’t do the whole DVD. In the actual DVD, Mike does tend to goof off a little bit, and make some jokes, but I think it helped make the DVD more easygoing, and actually helped a little with the workout. Another small complaint would be that Mike tends to only do the first few reps, and display how to do it, and then he usually goes over to either the girl, or his friend and comments on how they’re doing the exercise, and then finally counts down to the end of the set.
Overall, there are definitely some funny parts of this DVD, but the main objective of it isn’t to be funny, and it really is a pretty good workout. Obviously a more intense workout like P90X would probably be more difficult, but I like The Situation workout, as all it requires is a pair of dumbbells, and it’s about 1/10 of the cost of P90x. This is a great workout DVD for those days you don’t have time to make it to the gym, or if you’d rather work out at home. If you stick with this routine, you will see results.
