Album reviews: Appetite for Destruction, Guns 'n' Roses

You know where you are?! You're in the jungle baby, you're gonna die! An outrageous line from the most outrageous Rock 'n' Roll band in the history of the entire genre. With tunes like Sweet Child o' Mine and Paradise City, this is truly one of the greatest albums of all time. There has never been a debut album, ever before or since, that sold so many copies (around 28 million - to this date) and 14x Platinum Certification in the USA!

My personal favourite song from the album is the song Nightrain - "I'll be loaded like a freight train, flying like an aeroplane, feeling like a space brain one more time tonight - look out!" These are the opening lyrics and the chorus of this truly magnificent song. I am also very interested by probably the most outrageous song on the album, which features real sounds from Axl Rose having sex with Duff McKagan's girlfriend, during an epic solo. Ironically Axl is screaming louder during the orgasm than the woman is (usually men quieter and women are louder in sex, but not this time).

There isn't really a weak song on the album, but if I had to pick the one which I liked the least, I would probably go for It's So Easy - to be honest I actually love this song, just not as much as the rest of the songs on the album, and had it been on anyone else's album, it would probably have been my favourite track!

Even though this album is way, way before my time, I still love it, and when I speak to my friends about it, even though none of them (all mainstream pop addicts), have heard of the album, all have heard of the biggest songs on the album, with some of the most memorable lyrics and guitar work the world has ever seen, (Sweet Child o' Mine, Welcome to the Jungle and Paradise City etcetera)!

If asked if there is an album I actually like more than this one, I would say no, within a few seconds, not needing to pause for any kind of thought, that is how great Apetite for Destruction really is! I would recommend this to anyone of any age, even mainstream or pop fans, as even if you don't like Rock, you can really relate to, and love the album! 5 stars any day - a MUST have!
