Things to never bring as housewarming gifts

When choosing the perfect housewarming gift, some people come up short. Some people try to get creative whereas others want to give something quick and easy. Even still there are people who choose gift they would enjoy themselves without any thought to the preference of the new residents. Here are some housewarming gift ideas that are never a good idea.

Live Pets

It is never a good idea to give a live pet as a housewarming gift. Pets take a lot of care and attention and this isn’t something they need at this point. If they wanted a pet, they would pick out one themselves. This brings up another reason why giving a live pet as a housewarming gift is not a good idea. Pets are a personal choice. When a person picks a pet, he or she will pick one that will best fit into their life. This is not up for someone else to decide.

Novelty Items

One of the worst gifts is novelty items. Although you may think they are cute or funny, chances are your friends won’t. One of the worst complaints is about receiving odd knick knacks, collector’s plates, and just worthless junk. If your friend wants knick knacks he or she will pick it out per their style.

Gag Gifts

Although humorous in theory, this can quickly ruin the mood for anyone celebrating moving into a new home. Giving gag gifts follows the same rules as novelty items. Even though you may be laughing, your friend probably won’t be.

Cleaning Supplies

In theory this sounds like a good gift, however it is not a good idea. Some people will take this housewarming gift the wrong way. Are you sending them a message that they don’t have a clean and tidy home? Chances are they have already thought of cleaning supplies so giving cleaning supplies is redundant. It also shows that you didn’t take the time to put any real thought into the gift.

Art

Art is, again, a personal choice. Just because you like it doesn’t mean it will be appreciated. Not many people talk about their art preferences. Therefore you should leave the wall décor up to them. Also, you shouldn’t create your own piece of artwork to give them. Although love and hard work may go into it, you don’t know if they will truly like it and don’t want them to loathe it hanging on the wall. Whether store bought or handmade, do you really want to risk them feeling a sense of dislike and you at the same time?

Personal Romance Items

So a couple has moved into a new home, just because they are a couple doesn’t
