Impossible to please God without faith

Have you ever known someone who was impossible to please? No matter how hard you tried, the pleasing was always one-sided. Maybe your father was unable to communicate love to you. Maybe his father was unable to communicate love to him. And the cycle goes round and round in a never-ending circle. But with your heavenly Father, things are different. There is a way to please God and he gives us the blueprint. Following the scriptural words will surely shower the Father's love upon us because he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him. He returns our love. So even though your earthly father might have been unable to show his love for you, all things are possible with God.

The Epistle to the Hebrews was written by an unknown author in A.D. 67-69.  Chapter 11 is known as the "faith chapter" and tells us what faith is and what it means to live by faith. Hebrews 11 begins with an abstract thought. "Now faith is the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things not seen." "But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."

Therein lies the treasure, crystal clear as can be. God wants us to believe he is real, just like your earthly father is real. He wants a relationship with us. He wants to communicate with us. He wants us to trust him. If we draw close to God, he will draw close to us. Jesus said, "ask and you will receive, seek and you will find, knock and the door will be opened unto you." Jesus also said, "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." These scriptures show us that God is beckoning us to draw near to him.

Jesus was in constant communication with his Father. He could do this because he was sinless. That poses a problem for us because we are sinners. But we can right our relationship with God by confessing our sins, allowing us to resume our communion with him. "If we confess our sins he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."

When Jesus called out his disciples he said, "Follow me." We are called out the same way. We are attracted to Jesus, his holiness and his goodness. We watch him. We watch what he does and what he says as we study the words of the
