What is wrong with modern day horror movies?

by Lavel Wideman

It's like throwing a wrench right in the middle of an engine while its running with vigor: Someone has messed this all up. And I'm sick and tired of people, who knows nothing about the art of horror or the business thereof, to just butt their noses into something they have no business getting into or  no liking of this particular industry and now, late in the day, we all ask: What happened? From the fifties to the eighties horror movies with its blood and gore was doing fine: we didn't need to ask anyone how much blood we should have or is this scary enough or is this just too much. We've all become these pamby asses and I hate it. I hate this feeling. I hate to be told 'No' and not in this area: Told, "We got to make it nice for the kids today. People don't like all that blood gushing out, all that killing..."

Then what is a horror movie?

Will we have to tame it? How far is far? One more step further and...

You know this world isn't getting any better. You're bound to see something out of the ordinary, and will you be able to catch it in time? Suspense is all around us. We live with the unknown everyday: something is about to scare us half to death. Will our minds be able to shut it out in time? I have to tell you, seeing it,  blocking  it out of our minds will not take away the sight  of a plane crash, seeing bodies strewn all over the ground; or even a car crash. An ambulance can't cover so much from view.

But we can sit in a chair and watch something, to you and I, may be farfetched, but to someone, out in that audience, it may be real: perhaps even be a help because the closed world may not be exposed to things like that: they want to see green land with fences, while others see murder and mayhem lurking right around the corner(using their senses). Those that view horror movies know about the Boogeyman, and what his capabilities are but those behind white picket fences have not a clue of what lurks out in the darkened woods at night. It's not real to them. Reminds me of the television show, directed by George Romero about an old timer, who Bah-humbug about Halloween until all the things, the little wicked things came...they came knocking on his door. What was real to others and his poo-pooing, they finally showed their faces. Things of the unknown stood among a man who said "...there's no such thing..."
