The holiday is such a romantic and special time of the year. It is the perfect time to propose. There is one pitfall. Do not wrap the ring as a Christmas present and give it to your soon to be fiancée. She may feel cheated out of her Christmas present and a little let down that there was not more fan fare. Getting engaged should be just as memorable as Christmas, not a gift for Christmas. Here are a few ways to make your proposal memorable.
Christmas is a good time to propose because her family will be there. Is it a good time for you to propose if you do not have any moral support? If you are going to propose at Christmas, feel comfortable with her family. You can even ask them for ideas. You will want to propose in a way that will surprise her, even if you have talked about getting engaged.
After all the Christmas presents are unwrapped, ask for everyone’s attention. Say you have one more gift and pop the question, opening the box for her. Get down on your knee if you are physically able. She will remember getting engaged on Christmas forever.
If both families know you are going to propose during the holidays, you may want to propose with just her there. Neither family can get upset because one side of the family was there and the other was not. Ask for her hand in marriage without an audience of family or have both families present.
Take your girlfriend to where you first met. Propose to her there. She will think you are the most romantic guy alive if you can remember that. If you are able to decorate the spot, or make the spot even more memorable for the proposal, the effort will not go unnoticed.
If you and your girlfriend have a romantic restaurant that is your favorite, take her there to propose to her. You can let the restaurant manager know what you are doing and see if they have suggestions or see if they can help you with your proposal. You may want them to come out and cheer for her, or help you place her ring on top of her dessert. Rings should not be hidden in food or even put in a drinking glass just in case your lady misses seeing the ring and chokes on it.
A tried and true suggestion for a wedding proposal is a carriage ride. Take a romantic stroll around the park or even on an outing and “pop the question” on your ride. It will be a night for her to remember. Just remember to bring a blanket in case she does not dress for being outdoors.
Wherever you choose to propose to your girlfriend, make sure you do it with love. Put a little effort into it for a lifetime of memories. Show her how much you care.
