Creative Headboard Ideas For King Size Beds.

Choosing a headboard for a king size bed can often be difficult. With so many sizes, shapes and prices you can sometimes feel overwhelmed by such a seemingly simple task. Coming up with creative ways to make your own headboard may be a better solution for you. Here are a few Ideas to help you create the perfect headboard using things you may already have in your home, or can find at a local garage sale. These Ideas can save you time and money, as well as give you a customized look that you probably wouldn't find in any furniture store.

Search your garage or guest bedroom for an old wooden door, or even an old dresser you aren't using. The door or dresser top can be sanded and refinished, and then hung on the wall above your bed. The great thing about this option is that you can go as simple or as extravagant as you like. You can paint it, cover it with fabric or rhinestones, or really anything you can imagine! That's the beauty of it, you can customize it to suit your own unique taste.

Another great option is to use an old all-glass storm door. Simply remove the glass and dispose of the metal framing. Clean the glass thoroughly, and hang it above your bed with small mirror brackets. You can then use acrylic paint to create designs on the glass, either freehand or using stencils, which can be found in most hardware stores. This will give the objects you paint an almost 3D look, as if they were just floating above your bed!

You can also go to your local scrapyard and ask if they have any wrought iron fencing. If they do, you can probably get it for next to nothing, and they usually have the tools on site to cut it to match the width of your bed. Then clean it, paint it, and viola! You have another great headboard!

So whether you use a door, a dresser top or even an old fence, creating a unique headboard for your king size bed can be cheaper and easier than you may think. Just remember to be safe, keep an open mind and have fun!
