Reflections: Why I believe in God

by Audrey Busciglio

I do not remember a time when God was not a big  part of my life. I learned at a young age to pray and talk to Him everyday. It became part of my daily routine and a source of comfort, knowing I was looked after and guided throughout  my journey in  life. Beliefs come from within the soul, and are unique to each individual. People have their own perception of what God is like, and others may not believe in Him at all. But,  I know my own feelings about God, and have embraced the fact that I have truly felt  His presence in my life  many  times.

Worshiping in  church  is a cathartic experience for me. The quietness, and calm that is present in  church,  creates an atmosphere of connection, and joy that transcends the physical world. There is a special feeling associated with being a part of the sacredness that is present when I kneel and pray, and light a candel for an intention  that I hold deep within my heart. I find joy, and comfort in this environment, but, my true beliefs allow me to believe in a God, I may not physically see, but feel,  within my heart, and,  soul wherever I may be.

I have learned that I can not ask for everything, and, expect my prayers to be answered always to my liking. I don't waste time  praying to win the lottery, but, I do focus on what really is important to me. Guidance, and patience is something I can never get enough of, and peace and happiness is something I believe we  are all  looking for. I sometimes pray to be a better individual, who places the needs of others before my own, I can always use help with that one.

During the trying times in my life, I never felt alone. There was that feeling that someone, who was much bigger than I am  was there to get me through the pain and hurt I was feeling.  It is like the poem "Footprints in the Sand" when a man reflects back on his life and sees that during the difficult times  there was only one set of footprints, when he needed God the most.  As many  of us know God replies by saying, during those times I carried you. I have felt like I was also carried when the  hard times were present. The death of my parents were two occasions when I got through it,  because, God was there to carry me along that journey.

I believe God is very much present in my life, and, is there for me
