Poetry: Homemaking

No End TO

I stare at nowhere feeling quite vexed
the same quandary yet again
what should be done first and what next
a number of tasks, all so mundane
Oh! the household chores
Oh ! how it bores

I can just forget it all
but then they will be left for good
so now I have to make the call
should I not or I should
is that even a choice really?
a best left unanswered query

I grab a pen as if it were a knife

and start carving a list out of spite
nothing seems important enough, if left undone
but yet they all have to be done
what a ludicrous situation
when my mind and heart dart in opposite direction

I go to the kitchen, to see what I should cook
I open the refrigerator and take a look
the veggies gaze back , they start talking like a parrot
"I am rich in vitamin A"' says the carrot
the psychedelic peppers chanted in sync too
"vitamin c will keep away that nasty flu"
shrieked the chicken ,"I am protein , I am protein
quintessential element for your preteen"
they squealed , chuckled , rolled their lashless eyes
horrified I decide, tonight leftovers will be wise

Then  I take a look at my agenda again
nothing seemed to take precedence
So, I choose to fold up laundered clothes
not just one but piled up loads
the sorting out then begins
shirts, trousers , jeans leggings..

Talking of leggings...
I have finally figured out what goes on with the socks in there
b'coz they go in as a stinky couple , they never come out as a pair
instead, princess pink fell for dingy blue
both mysteriously disappeared without a clue
or do they just like being single?
be merry and guiltlessly mingle?

Now I am left with the deserted two
With one pink and a blue what do I do
On each hand I glove a sock
and start my dusting duty at 12'o clock
Then, I start to vacuum away
I will get this done by 1 , come what may

oh ! I want to faint instead, this list in infinite
oh ! where is that bottle of cyanide

After that I head to buy cat food
"Nermal" prefers purina as friskies is no good
let me tell you that she is a feral
her owner abandoned her to face the peril
she meows at my door and gives me a melancholy blink
that makes my utterly butterly heart sink

The time now is 3 and I have to run
I go to school and pick up my son
he comes back home and gives me an attitude
A long day he has had, and that I give him some latitude

Hope by now you all get the gist
Its half past three and I have 10 more on my list
swimming class , homework, then dishes and more
by the end of the day, I am ready to storm out that door

And for those who haven't the slightest inkling
and for those of you who think ...
all that homemakers do is sit and munch
think twice, 'coz there is no such thing as a free lunch !
