It doesn't matter which teams are playing, over 100 million people are watching the Superbowl each year. It is perhaps the greatest day of community in America - as we all huddle about our television screens as though our very lives depend on this two-hour span of history. So - this year you're having the party? No idea what sorts of snacks to serve your guests? Worry not - sit back, relax, and be sure the big-screen in the living room is ready for action. These buffet ideas will leave your guests full and happy whether they win or lose.
Hand and Finger Foods:
Nachos with Chili Cheese Dip
Who doesn't love nachos with cheese? Authentic stadium game food that always pleases the football savvy guest - grab a bag of tortilla chips and toss them in a bowl. Use store-bought nacho cheese for the dip. Heat in a sauce pan with a can of vegan chili until boiling, stirring constantly. Serve the dip, piping hot, in a bowl next to the chips. A nice surprise with a home-made, spicy zing in the after-taste, guests will clean the plate and beg for more!
Fruit and Veggie Tray
A party's not a party without a fruit and veggie tray. Add a yogurt dip (plain vanilla yogurt in a casual or team themed bowl will do) and ranch dressing on the side for a pure crowd pleaser. Most popular on a plate are fruits from the berry family and veggies that are easily "dip-able" and retain dressing well. Favorite veggies include raw broccoli, baby carrots, cold celery, and zesty radishes.
Dark Chocolate with Almonds
Sweet and savory with a crunch that talks - guests will enjoy handfuls from a bowlful of these tasty treats. Delightful to the taste buds and boosting to the bodies energy, this will keep those not-so-excited-about-football guests awake and alert and your football die-hards scarfing by the handful.
Hummus with Baby Pitas
Slice pita bread into fourths and serve as baby-pitas with your choice of hummus. Health food junkies will love you forever and TV dinner regulars will thank you for the tasty change.
Fork and Spoon Dishes:
Hearty Chili
Make your own favorite chili recipe or buy a few cans and dump them into the crock pot. Cook on high for two hours before your guests arrive and then let it simmer on low for the duration of the event. Guests will enjoy this spicy and savory treat with the baby pitas and tortilla chips already on the table and this hot and delicious item
