Things people should never reveal on Facebook

There are a few things that an individual might not want to reveal on Facebook.  While Facebook is the largest social networking platform available to people right now I would not reveal everything.  One thing that you might not want to reveal on Facebook is your own profile.  The recommended settings leave status updates, photos and posts, and your family and relationships open.  Change this setting to “Friends Only”; I would not even allow the friends of those I am already friends with to see who else is a friend of mine.

You can change this setting on the “Privacy Settings” link off of the “Account” link at the top.  I don’t know anyone else but my friends on Facebook, so there is no reason why anyone else should see what I’m doing.  There is also an option to “Share a tagged post with friends of the friend I tag” on that same page, uncheck that option.  Why would you want those people’s friends to see what you tag on your friends page?  It just does not make a lot of sense to me.

Privacy settings is broken down into two different categories. I have already explained everything that you need to know under the option “Sharing on Facebook”.  Now I will discuss the other option, for “Connecting on Facebook”.  Click on “View Settings”, if you want to be found, and do not mind when your employer or anyone else who is trying to “Google” you running across your profile you can leave everything unchecked.  But if you want privacy, you might want to change some of these options to “Friends”, or in the case of “Send you friend requests”, set it to “Friends of Friends”.

There is nothing to actually save on this page, simply checking on the right setting, making the adjustment, and then clicking on another link saves the changes.  What has happened with the “Connecting on Facebook” option is that Facebook essentially asks you if you want to be found seven different ways.  No I do not want other people in my city finding me, no I do not want other people I went to school with finding me.  You have to read those options to get a clear understanding of just who can read your posts and see your friends and who cannot.

You also need to keep your profile in check.  Do not list your status on your Facebook page, regardless of what it is.
