Parenting is one of the hardest jobs in the world. Not only is parenting a difficult job, it comes without pay. However, the rewards of love are endless. Many times though, parents will find themselves dealing with rebellious teenagers. If parents can’t deal with their rebellious teens, there may be permanent damage for both sides.
So, where can a parent find help with their rebellious teenager? Well, there are many places if you look. The first place to find help with a rebellious teen can often be within the family. Sometimes an older sibling can talk to the teen to help with the situation. Many times teens have an aunt or uncle they look up to. This can often be used to your advantage. If a teen has an aunt or uncle they look up to, then that relative may have some influence where the teen will at least listen to their point of view. A teen will often tones things down and at least try to make the situation better when being asked by a person they admire and look up to, even if they think you are wrong and they are right. Grandparents are also a great source when dealing with rebellious teens. Remember grandparents already raised you and have tons of experience. In addition, grandparents have different relationship with the teens then mom and dad. This relationship is one that teens will often respect by not crossing certain boundaries.
A second alternative when looking for help with a rebellious teen is to seek help through their school. Often a teenager, who is being rebellious at home, is also being rebellious at school. By seeking help within the school more can be achieved. For one there is more power in numbers. An alliance can be formed between you the parent and the school principal, guidance counselors, teachers and coaches. By networking with the school help for the teenager may be at its greatest because parents and the school are all on the same page and have greater open communication than the average family. This can help at home and school.
Another great place to get help with a rebellious teenager is thru the church, especially with a church based youth group. Getting your teenager into a church youth group not only gives the teen something to do, it also puts your teenager in a good environment. A youth group can give loads of help when it comes to a rebellious teenager. First of all a church pastor leading a youth group can influence you’re teen in a positive way by showing them right and wrong in respect to the parents.
