Another year has ended as another is about to begin. Whether you are traveling solo, with a partner, friends, or family it is a good idea to know where the best places to be for New Year’s Eve are. Some cities have family friendly events. Other places are strictly for those over the age of 21. Even still there are locations that celebrate with a touch of romance.
New York Time Square in New York City
With over a billion viewers each year, the New Year’s Eve Party in Time Square is a popular event each year. There are several parties going on at area businesses with over a million people in attendance. Everyone joins in the celebration, anticipating the drop of the infamous New Years Eve Ball which signifies that 2011 has begun for the Eastern Time zone. The celebration starts at 7:00pm and continues until 2:00am. Ticket pricing varies, but the most popular is the all access passes that allows you access to all areas of the celebration. Along with access to all locations within Time Square, you will receive free drinks and free appetizers at participating vendors as well as party favors. Around 7:45pm on December 31 the New Year Eve celebration begins with a torchlight procession. Tens of thousands of people carry torches from the historic Royal Mile to the Son et Lumiere. The torchlight procession is followed by a fireworks display on Carlton Hill. Torches cost £6.
The New Year’s Eve street party begins around 9:00pm and lasts until around 1:00am. Tickets to the street party are £15. There will be live music, outdoor bars, giant screens and much more. Fireworks begin at midnight. This event is for those over the age of 16.
It is a Spanish custom to try to consume twelve grapes before the clock is done chiming twelve times. If you can manage to do this, you will get to make a wish for the new year. Barcelona has many parties going on at various clubs, restaurants, and other venues. There is even a bottle breaking contest in a marked area. Tickets are generally purchased through each venue.
