As we observe the world around us, we see the evils of war, conflict, disease, and poverty plaguing us. We've become so used to it, that we've accepted it. We say that someone has to be rich and someone has to be poor. It's just how life is. But does someone have to be so poor that they don't have fresh water to drink or a good pair of shoes? Does someone have to be so poor that they end up having to split their plate of food among their children just so they can have enough to fill their bellies? At what point does the world step in and recognize those hungry and those dieing from disease?
Many men, women, and children are dieing in war in which not many even know the reasons for entering. With all the conflict, hostility is brewing. Nations proclaiming their rights to produce nuclear weapons. Why does any country need them? If peace is the ultimate goal why does anyone need a weapon that could wipe out a mass of people?
Every nation faces this battle. Here in the U.S cities fill with violence and lack of education. Visions of Hollywood's together today, separated tomorrow relationship mentality flood out television and magazines. It's a sad state when TomKat's wedding is the top news of the week.
We certainly are an individualistic society from the wealthy businessmen to the middle class worker. The less fortunate take it the hardest thought. There are so many things wrong in this country and the world. It's to step quietly hoping that your government will do the right thing. It's time for the people to help the people. It's time for the people to force the government to do the right think. We must get rid of the classic belief that one or a few can't make a difference. If I don't decide to do it and you don't decide to do it, how can we make the world a better place?
Our nation's history gives proof that major change is possible by the effort of the people. Those were people like us who fought for right during the Civil Rights Movement. They inspired change. So what is our generation going to do? Will we sit back and kill each other? Will be sit back and watch each other starve to death? Will we sit back and watch each other rot away? By right and by duty, the people must speak.
