The Mona Lisa has long held the gaze of the art world with her hypnotic eyes, and the sliver of a smile she shows, has left many wondering who it was that posed for this masterpiece. To add even more to the mystique of this famous painting, it has now been recently recognized by various researchers that The Mona Lisa painting has hidden letters and numbers in its eyes.
The art world has been long been beguiled as to the identity of the the person who posed for this painting, and now the excitement is growing even more as these letters and numbers, perhaps written in secret code, may give clues to the recognition of whom this woman was that posed for Mr. Leonardo DaVinci. It is generally believed that the name of the woman who posed for this painting was Lisa Gherardini, who was the wife of a Florentine merchant, but no one is really certain.
This hidden code that is in the pupils of the Mona Lisa is not visible without the aid of a magnifying glass, however, once you view the pupils with the magnifying glass the letters and numbers are clearly visible. With so much scrutiny of this particular painting, you would wonder why these letters and numbers were not discovered until now. But by all accounts, this does seem to be a new discovery.
So what is written in the Mona Lisa pupils? In her right eye are written the letters LV. The left eye also contains symbols not as legible, but they appear to be the letters CE, or perhaps B. In the arch of the bridge, in the painting's background, there are symbols which appear to be 72, or L and 2.
The question is, what does this discovery mean to us. In reality, it most likely means absolutely nothing. While it does add to more fascinating reading about this famous painting, perhaps some type of DaVinci code fodder to add to the next movie that is made, it really does not mean much at all.
To begin with, the symbols are not completely clear, so no one can actually determine with 100 percent accuracy what they are. To add to this, even if the symbols were figured out, no one would know what they actually meant. For someone to say what they meant would be pure speculation.
The thing to remember is that this painting is truly a great work of art to be treasured forever, and anything else discovered about it would not make it anything less.
