Tweens can be quite hard to find games for as a parent, especially if the games the tween plays are monitored closely for violence, bad language and other mature themes.
To take into account what parents may or may not want their children to play over the Christmas 2010 period, two types of games will be mentioned. Those types are games with ‘some’ mature themes and those that are completely safe for tweens to play.
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood
Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood can be a complex game in all honesty when it comes to the storyline. It can also be violent at times, with the characters using swords and such to kill each other. But apart from that, it shouldn’t be too bad. In the UK, the game is a 15 certificate.
The reason it’s mentioned here is because it’s a recent release and because tweens should enjoy the actual gameplay, because they’ll get to scale buildings by climbing up them and also engage in some nice combat while working out how to stay hidden and take out targets. Again though, it might be a bit too overly violent or complex.
The Sims 3
The Sims 3 isn’t a recent game by any means, but Electronic Arts regulary bring out expansion packs to keep on adding content to the game and it is part of one of the best selling franchises of all time. In addition, the game itself is totally fine for tweens to play due to it not featuring violence of any kind. Well, that is unless people count some sims fighting each other and said fight being conducted in a cloud of dust. There is the option to tell sims to kiss each other though amongst other things (the act isn’t seen at all so it’s not rude), but it’s all part of helping guide the lives of sims that players control.
Tweens should enjoy the simulation aspects, which are designed to be fun, as well as just controlling their sims. They should also enjoy building houses, amongst other things.
Smackdown vs Raw 2011
The Smackdown series of video games are released annually and the game sees players take control of wrestlers from the WWE. The game aims to capture the drama of the shows and they also try to get as close as they can to replicating matches as they are seen on the television and at live events. So, the game is bound to be popular amongst tweens who are fans of wrestling.
However, there is some blood in the game but it’s not gratuitous and the violence isn’t worse than what’s shown on the television during the WWE’s shows.
Sport games
Any of the sport games like Madden, Fifa and NBA are also bound to be popular amongst teens and they are released annually like the WWE Smackdown games. They’re great to play alone provided the sport the game’s based on is enjoyed. They’re also great for adults to play on their own or with their children. In addition, they’re great entertainment for groups of people.
