Does God exist?

by Joe Disturbance

Motto: “People see God every day, they just don't recognize him.” (Pearl Bailey)

The most profound question anyone could ever think of. The key to understanding the purpose of life, the reason of man’s existence on earth. The driving-force behind all movement on earth, and beyond. And the answer to it is the ultimate truth.

The Bible declares: “The heavens are declaring the glory of God; and of the work of his hands the expanse is telling.” (Psalm 19:1) This Bible-verse is an open invitation to scrutinize the Universe itself. Yes, the heavens themselves, the expanse, the creation, are the final proof for God’s existence.

Back in the 1940’s, a Swiss engineer, George de Mestral, went walking with his dog. When they returned home, he observed that the dog’s fur and his clothes were covered with burs. He examined the burs over a microscope and became intrigued by what he saw. Finally, he invented an equivalent for the burs—the Velcro. This is but one example of natural designs that inspired the mind of man. In fact, the science that mimics the natural patterns is called biomimetics. However, let us think of this question: How often do inventors give credit to the One who designed the tiny burs, or the other patterns that we find in nature upon which many human inventions are based? The sad reality is that most people today prefer to take everything for granted, thus ignoring the One that is behind everything.

It is true that many scientists insist that there is no God. In fact, there is an entire industry designed to destroy God and the belief in him. One evolutionist even said: “We are here because one odd group of fishes had a peculiar fin anatomy that could transform into legs for terrestrial creatures. . . We may yearn for a ‘higher’ answer—but none exists.” (Stephen Jay Gould) And others that sustain: “Perhaps the human species is just a ghastly biological blunder.” (Richard E. Leakey and Roger Lewin) However, there are no proven facts and evidences that support these learned men’s theories.

Apostle Paul wrote something quite interesting about God: “His invisible qualities are clearly seen from the world’s [mankind’s] creation onward, because they are perceived by the things made, even his eternal power and Godship, so that they [unbelievers] are inexcusable.” (Romans 1:20) The idea is that the Creator left his signature
