In recent years it's become very popular for men to remove their body hair. One of the easiest and most convenient ways to do this, is to shave the body. Some men may be nervous to do this in case it looks unsightly, but following these simple tips will ensure a smooth and comfortable result.
Tools for the Job
Gather together a small comb, small sharp scissors, a soft washcloth, shower cream or gel, one or two good unused razors (preferably good quality with pivotal heads), or a good electric razor with trimmer attachments that can give a wet or dry shave, soft towel and moisturising oil.
Essential Preparation
Trim any coarse or long hair with small, sharp scissors and comb. Hold the comb under the hair and trim with scissors.
Have a shower with warm water for at least 5 minutes, this will soften the skin and relax the hair follicle, making the body shaving more comfortable.
Apply shaving cream/gel to all areas which have to be shaved and leave for a couple of minutes to soften the skin and hair.
Body Shaving
Start to shave the areas with the finest hair first, leaving the coarsest hair to the last, this gives the cream ample time to soften the coarser hair. When shaving larger areas such as the chest and back areas, do a small area at a time, such as the right side of the chest using small blade strokes. When that area is completely hair free, move on to the left side.
For shaving the back area, try using an extending attachment for your razor. This can be attached to a normal razor and helps to get to all the awkward areas that are hard to reach on your own. If you prefer an electric shaver some of the latest models have adjustable and extendable handles designed to reach every area.
Shaving Techniques and Tips
Always shave in the direction of the hair growth. This can prevent unsightly and painful ingrown hairs and prevent tiny cuts.
Soften particularly coarse hair with a small amount of hair conditioner.
Use plenty of shaving gel or cream to soften skin and hair follicles.
Use small blade strokes, taking care not to go over the same area repeatedly, as this will cause razor burn and irritation.
Always rinse the blade after each stroke to avoid scrapes and scratches.
If shaving the pubic area take care to pull the skin taut, paying particular attention to removing the hair gently and safely, always using a good razor, plenty of shaving cream and removing a little hair at a time. (Also ensure the area has been trimmed first).
Shave every 3 -4 days, depending on hair growth, to prevent itching and stubble.
Use a mild cream on all shaved areas for a few days after shaving. If sensitive to cream use a few drops of baby oil. This can prevent itching, dry skin and soften the new hair growth, making it less prickly. Avoid swimming and sunbathing for at least 24 hours after shaving, to avoid stinging and discomfort.
Using the above tips will enable you to carry out a smooth, close, body shave with as little irritation as possible.
