Chapter 3- Jamie
After school I waited in the parking lot, half tempted to run to Chase’s car and have him take me home. We had talked in English class and were now on better terms. Not great, but better.
I began to pace, feeling more anxious by the second. I hated feeling as helpless as I felt. I looked at Jeremy’s car. That meant he hadn’t left yet. I wished silently that it would mysteriously disappear, but of course, no luck there… Why had he been so persistent for me to go to his house? Oh yeah, his having to baby sit might have been the cause.
“MacKenzie Vance?” A man’s voice called from behind me.

Mr. Sherman folded his hands on his desk and sighed. “There was an accident…”
My mind instantly shut down when he didn’t continue. I felt so numb that I didn’t even feel Jeremy’s hand holding mine. Now that’s saying something!
“And…” Jeremy urged Mr. Sherman to continue.
“And…someone died.” He went on. “I’m sorry Miss. Vance but it was your sister.”
I felt tears fill my eyes. “Jamie?”
“I’m sorry.” Mr. Sherman simply replied as he looked at his hands, not daring to look me in the eyes.
I instantly went into Jeremy’s open arms as I cried. This made me feel a little better but not enough to stop the
