How to get back to basics and know God

Ironically, the most important and significant matter in life is sadly and too often overlooked or ignored. Many people are so caught up in life, liberty and the pursuit of 'happiness', they don't see or address the 'elephant in the room' that has been standing there.

In the scriptures, it tells us that God put the knowledge of Himself within us, so that we are "without excuse" for not acknowledging Him. (Rom.1:18-22) What people do with this inner knowledge, varies.

Some ignore it and put it on a back-burner and live their lives out without ever really addressing it.

Others have had negative experiences or input that soured them toward God - which has caused them to counter Him by denying His existence.  They gather and collect information and data to support their position of denial of Him.

Still, others are born into - or join world religions as their attempt to be connected with God.

Then, there are the few who go with their inner knowledge and seek to meet and know God personally in relationship. This is what God has desired from the beginning. It was made quite apparent in the story of Adam and Eve and in God's relationship with Israel.

We weren't designed to live our lives without God involved in them.

Suffering, losses and internal crisis' has been a common driving factor that draws people to seek God. They have found themselves in a precarious position of helplessness of spirit, out of options and in need of intervention.

In the book of Mark (2:16-17) the religious Pharisees and scribes inquired of Jesus' disciples to explain why Jesus was eating and drinking with "sinners".

Jesus heard them and replied: "They that are whole have no need of a of the physician, but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous (the self-righteous and prideful), but sinners to repentance".

This was a witty and curious remark because the distinctions in the scriptures are that all men are sinners.

According to the Lexicon, the word 'sin' means "to miss the mark or intended purpose in a thing or matter." We are errant, imperfect human beings who are expert at "missing the mark". God knows that we don't just need a relationship with Him, but we need His help as well.

He loves us with a love that surpasses any other, and He longs for us to realize our need for Him. Sadly, many wait until their brokenness is a five-alarm emergency. Until then, seeking God is an option as opposed to a necessity.

Meeting and knowing God is not only a desire of God for us, but many
