Dollar stores, or pound shops as they are known in the UK, are ideal places to pick up a few bargains. Of course, some common sense needs to be demonstrated, because some products are so cheap that they do not last and it may be worth paying more to have something that is of better quality. However, there are a number of products that it is well worth saving money on at the dollar store.
*Toiletries
Unless you insist on having the latest, most expensive brands of toiletries, the dollar store is a great place to pick up shampoos, facial products, shower gels and hair styling products. They can be around half the price of buying the same items in other stores. Of course, it is not always possible to ensure that a preferred brand is in stock, but provided that the shopper is happy to switch to whatever is available, there should be no problem.

However, buying decorations, cards and other items can be expensive, especially if they are only going to be thrown away afterwards. Purchasing things from a dollar store means that there won’t be too much of a dent in the wallet.
For basic medical supplies, such as painkillers, cold medicine, indigestion tablets and plasters, dollar stores can be ideal, allowing the shopper to stock up on a regular basis. Otherwise, such items tend to be bought as and when they are needed and this can be expensive, especially if purchased from the closest corner store. Even brand names are often available in dollar stores, so there is no need to distrust the quality of the product.
*Books/DVDs
Different stores have different options, but often there is a reasonable range of books and DVDs available. These are never the latest offerings and sometimes may be budget versions, but for fans of books and movies, there are some real bargains to be picked up. Often the equivalent product elsewhere is much more expensive. Children’s books and DVDs are always worth looking out for, especially as cheap treats.
*Cleaning products
Even in supermarkets, cleaning products can be very expensive – and most households buy a wide range of such products. In dollar stores, there is often a good range of basic products that can be bought for much less and sometimes
