How to cure insomnia

Millions of people suffer from insomnia. Why do you think you see commercials for sleeping pills on television every day? It is a real problem and it has real solutions. A major contributer to to insomnia is stress. Stress at work or at school or just stress about life in general. Whatever it is you are stressed about can keep you awake at night.

Try getting more exercise during the day. It releases chemicals in your brain that will help you relax. If you are going to watch TV or read a book do it on a couch and not in bed. Designate your bed for sleep and nothing else.

Avoid taking naps during the day as much as possible. If you must nap after work or before going out to dinner make it no longer than an hour.

Try to sleep only at night. Set a time that you go to bed each night and wake up at the same time each morning (even on the weekend). Once your body clock is back on schedule it will be easier to fall asleep at night and stay asleep.

Avoid caffeinated drinks as much as possible. They can keep you up at night.

If you find yourself in bed and you can't fall asleep try turning the TV on or read a book to take your mind off whatever is keeping you awake.

If your alarm clock lights up at night turn it away from the bed. Not only is the light distracting but watching the clock can put added pressure on you since "the night is ticking away and you can't sleep."

Try sleeping in diffeent positions. Lie on your back one night and try your stomach or side another night. The way you sleep could be the reason you aren't getting an adequate amount of sleep.
