There are many brands of ice skates that make the cut above the rest. Finding the right brand for you depends on what type of ice skating you will be doing. Most people participate in recreational ice skating. Other people are more focused when it comes to ice skating and enjoy hockey and figure skating.
Bauer - If you are a hockey player, Bauer skates are an excellent brand to use. Adult ice skates typically cost $50.00 to $400.00. Children’s ice skates can be found as low as $20.00.
Dominion - This is a brand that is popular among recreational ice skaters. The price of Dominion ice skates are definitely in the affordable price range. In most cases, you won’t pay over $100.00 for a pair.
Edea - This is a brand for the more serious figure skater. Edea is used by many professional ice skaters. They are quite pricey though. The cheapest skate is around $250.00 and that doesn’t include the blades.
GAM - This is another brand of ice skates used with figure skating in mind. Mostly used by beginners, GAM ice skates are also used by professional ice skaters. Audrey Wiesiger, a two-time US Olympic couch recommends GAM over any other brand.
Graf - This brand is designed with playing hockey in mind. Graf ice skates for playing hockey run from $199.00 to over $600.00.
Harlick - This brand is revered by the serious figure skater. Harlick ice skates are custom fit and quite comfortable to wear compared to other brands. Because of the custom fit, Harlick ice skates will run well over $300.00.
Jackson - Whether you are just starting out or a pro, Jackson skates are great brand for ice skating. This brand is well known for making some of the best skates for figure ice skating and recreational ice skating. The price ranges from $40.00 to over $500.00 depending upon style and need.
K2 - This is a brand that is more popular among men and children for recreational ice skating. Most of their ice skates are under $100.00.
Klingbiel - Dubbed "the choice of champions", Klingbiel has been providing professional ice skates to champion figure skaters for years. This is definitely a brand that will cost a pretty penny though. The average price of just their boot is around $500.00. Each boot is custom made to fit your foot like a glove.
Riedell - Recommended by several ice skating coaches, Riedell ice skates are perfect for recreational and figure skating. The price ranges from $35.00 to over $300.00.
Risport - Designed for advanced figure skaters, Risport is an excellent choice. This brand can be quite pricey with the cheapest price being around $280.00.
No matter what brand you choose, be sure to determine your need first. Comfortablity is an important factor when it comes to ice skating. You don't want to be focused on how much your foot hurts instead of enjoying yourself by doing what you love. When you go to a skate shop, try the skate on. Don't buy it just for brand sake because the best brand is the one that fits you right.
