There is a lack of balance in spirituality today across the globe.
Worshipers lean either in one direction of devotion or the other. On one side of the spectrum we find people who are extremely enthusiatic about their spiritual walk and become so Heavenly minded that they are of no earthly good, while on the other side we have people who profess devotion to God but arise every morning with little or no thought to whom it is they say they serve. There remains to be a desperate cry for whole-hearted, single-minded spiritual followers who give little thought of themselves and much more thought towards their spiritual walk, and to the higher calling they have received.
The key to finding balance in our spiritual lives lies in the exact opposite of our natural human inclinations. The secret to balance is found in our Focus. We are naturally inclined to be severly concerned and focused on Self. We've learned it from the time we first uttered "Mine!" and were enthralled at how quickly our desires were met. The pendulum will forever stray as long as Self is the weighty issue. We must find that true spiritual success is found soley in the following of Christ's words when He was questioned about the greatest commandments. His response was that first we were to Love the Lord our God will all our heart, soul, mind and strength. Secondly, and lastly, He said we are to Love our neighbor as ourselves. In neither statement is Self ever the focus of the Love that is to be freely given, and yet, even He said that all other laws hang on these two alone.
There is no greater means of success and joy in life, especially in the issue of our Spiritual lives, than to remove the focus from our self, our dreams, our wants, our needs, our problems, and our failures, and rather invest in the needs and dreams of another! Only then can true balance be obtained in our spiritual lives.
