Tis the season for all good little girls and boys to want holiday treats to snack on. There are many great recipes out there to appease their grumbly tummies and satisfy any humbug of the season. The following are a few food recipes to make for any kid in a festive mood.
Healthy Holiday Snacks
Strawberry Snowmen
Put two cups of strawberries in a blender along with milk (add as much or as little as you need) and a few drops of vanilla extract then blend thoroughly. Put mixture in a container and place in the freezer until firm. Take out of the freezer and, using three different sized scoops, assemble the snowmen. Use licorice for a scarf and pieces of raisins for the eyes, nose, and mouth. Place back into the freezer until time to serve.
Cookie Craze
Edible Snowflake Cookies
Take some tortillas and cut into shapes of snowflakes. Layer the cookies evenly on a cookie sheet and bake until desired crispiness. While still warm, dust with powdered sugar or brown sugar. This is a great recipe to have the kids help with.
Candy Cane Cookies
1 cup of butter
1 cup of sugar
1 egg
2 ½ cups of self-rising flour
Red food coloring
Cream the butter and sugar; add the egg and mix well. Add the flour to the mixture and stir together. Divide the dough in half and set one part aside. Add red food coloring to the other part adding as much or as little as you want depending on the shade of red you are trying to reach. Chill; then roll out the dough to form snakes. Take one red snake and one without food coloring and intertwine them to make the candy cane; cutting to the desired length. Place on a slightly greased cookie sheet and bake at 350 degrees or until lightly browned. If desired white icing can be added to the part of the cookie without the food coloring.
Snacks That Will Bring a Smile
Edible Reindeer Poop
This really isn’t a recipe but more of an edible prank. Put large chocolate covered raisins and chocolate covered cherries in a festive bag and put it in the kid’s room with a “Merry Christmas” note from the reindeer.
These are only a few recipes to consider for holiday snacks. Find more by searching on the web for “Holiday Snack Ideas for Kids.”
