Life in a Metro was released in 2007 and is a Bollywood (aka Hindi language) multi-starrer. The Metro of the film refers to Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay) where life is buzzing and busy and maybe not everyone's cup of tea!
Ranjeet is a senior manager at a company where Neha and Rahul work with Rahul being a fairly junior call centre staff member. Rahul has a crush on Neha who barely notices he's alive and feels he's getting nowhere in his career the"normal" way. He decides to let senior colleagues use his apartment for illicit liaisons with their girlfriends, mistresses, prostitutes, etc. His boss Ranjeet uses Rahul's place to meet up with Neha who has secured several promotions due to sleeping with the boss. Ranjeet's wife Shikha is disillusioned with her marriage, having given up a successful dance career to be a devoted housewife, her husband now seems to have little interest in her and their young daughter so she strikes up a friendship with Akash, a struggling actor. Shikha's sister Shruti is a virgin in her late 20s desperate to get married who has a crush on a DJ at the radio station where she works. Shruti is introduced to Monty through a matrimonial site but isn't attracted to him as she finds him socially inept. Shruti's boss sets her up with Rishi the DJ and all seems to be going well. Amol is in his 70s and returns to India after living in the US for 40 odd years to spend time with the love of his life Shivani who was previously Shikha and Shruti’s dance teacher.
Does Rahul get promoted? Does Ranjeet leave his wife for his mistress? Does Shruti marry her DJ Rishi? Do Amol and Shivani get a chance at happiness after more than 40 years apart? Does Shruti's friendship with Akash blossom into anything more? Does Monty get a woman? Well of course, I'm not going to tell you that; am I?!
If that plot summary seems like a lot of storylines intertwined into one, I have to say that it did feel like it when watching the film, although not to the extent that it made the story too difficult to follow. As the main characters all seemed to have some connection with each other, it wasn't difficult to make sense of what was going on.
Being a Bollywood film it was surprising that this film was ONLY just over 2 hours long especially with so many stories mingled together with several pretty decent actors sharing screen time. I found some aspects of the story quite distasteful but mainly the fact that a well educated guy feels he has
