A dialogue on abortion

Abortion issue demoralizes and devalues women

Whatever happened to just saying no?

According to Democratic Underground, in 2005, Nancy Pelosi made the following statement:

"Tomorrow, we will observe the 32nd Anniversary of Roe vs. Wade, the landmark Supreme Court decision that affirmed a woman's right to make her own reproductive health care decisions."

Roe vs. Wade is based on a woman's fundamental right to privacy, a value that all Americans cherish.

It established that decisions about whether to have a child do not and should not rest with the government. A woman - in consultation with her family, her physician, and her faith - is best qualified to make that decision."

I am confused as to why abortion falls under the category of 'right to privacy'. Does that mean if you murder, rape, or beat someone in privacy of your own home, that the courts do not have the right to charge you with a crime?

The issue of abortion is a controversial one, not only because many view it as murder according to their religious and moral beliefs, but also because it demoralizes and devalues the thoughts and opinions of women who oppose abortions.

How about if women make their reproductive health care decisions, before another life is involved.

If a woman does not want to have a baby, the right to privacy should occur before she has unprotected sex. A woman has the fundamental right to say 'no' to the man who may impregnate her, not to the child growing inside of her.

That child has a fundamental right to live.

In the 1960's, sex education consisted of showing diagrams of male and female reproductive organs, and of teaching about sexually transmitted diseases. What they neglected to tell those students in class, was that a woman could get pregnant at any time. They forgot to tell the girls that it could take one encounter to become pregnant.

The Supreme Court's decision in the Roe vs. Wade case, does not give a woman the right to do what they want to an unborn child. What it actually does is make a decision the woman should have made for herself, before she found herself with an unwanted pregnancy.

If a woman is so against the idea of becoming a mother, she should be the one to decide that. If the courts make the decision, it sets the Women's Liberation Movement back to the time when men made decisions for women.

A woman needs to be in charge of her own body. She should not rely on someone else's decision to get rid of a baby she does not want. She needs to think about the consequences beforehand, not after she becomes pregnant, simply because the courts says she can always get rid of it.

Women, who believe that it is their fundamental right to have an abortion, have no respect for themselves. They do not think they are capable of being responsible for their own actions. These women need to learn that it is okay to say 'no,' to unprotected sex.

Women, who strongly oppose abortion, should not have to pay for those who advocate for it. The details in the healthcare reform bill are sketchy about securing public funding for abortions.

Just as it is a woman's right to privacy when it comes to whether to abort a baby or not, it is also a woman's right to not have to pay for another woman's inability to just say 'no'.

Disclaimer: This article has nothing to do with cases of abortions involving rape or incest. This has to do with a woman's right to choose. Rape and incest is not about having a choice. That can be discussed elswhere.
