How to make the most of Black Friday sales

by Angela Deeds

Created on: November 30, 2010

Making the most out of Black Friday sales, has not been something difficult for me.  It has become a day I look forward to!  I enjoy the whole Black Friday experience, from getting good deals, to people watching, me and my friends have the best time.  I guess maybe I don't get out much, its one night of the year I have a babysitter for the entire night, see all my friends, and get to shop.

The main key to getting the most out of the Black Friday sales, is having great shopping partners.  On Thursday night, we start rounding up our posse and figure out who needs to go where, and what they have to get.  We all help each other, getting all the great deals! I have my regular Black Friday crew, which includes me, my b-f-f, my sister-in-law, my brother-in-law, and now more recently my 18 year old daughter and 16 year old nephew.

Our most recent Black Friday outing was just last week.  We started off Thursday night by checking every ad, then figuring out how we could make it from one store to another, in enough time to get the door busters.  This has become somewhat of a sport for us.  This year it was a little more difficult, with Toys-R-Us opening at 10 p.m., Thanksgiving night, and the mall having selected stores opening at midnight.  This did create a little damper for us Black Friday die hard shoppers.  I have come to the conclusion that when the sales used to start at 5:00 a.m., it is harder for some people to get up and they will stay in bed.  Now with these new hours, there is a whole new breed of Black Friday shoppers, because for most, it is easier to stay up then get up!

At about 6:00 p.m. Thanksgiving evening, after the ads had all been viewed, we decided to do a drive by, and access the Black Friday situation.  We took a drive by Toys-R-Us, this was probably at 6:25 p.m. and they already had campers.  It was pouring down rain and there was probably already 30 people with tarps over them at the door.  I was thinking, I better get back and check that ad again, did I miss something? I don't remember seeing anything that spectacular, that I would sit in the pouring rain for 3.5 hours to get.  Not only that, did they forget Walmart price matches?  Okay, so on we go to the next drive by, which was the mall, and there were no lines yet, but there were people in there cars.  Next was Walmart! I had my eye on an Emerson 32" TV for $198. We took a stroll in Walmart,
