Poetry: The past

by Norma Budden

Created on: November 30, 2010

A Blast

Just one glimpse of the photo

To the past, my mind did cling.

I didn’t see a war-torn village

Yet, didn’t imagine what life would bring…

I was transported to a time -

No pain lingered in the air.

All was good; I felt alive

No despair lurked anywhere.

The light shining in my eyes…

The smile upon my face…

The peace which surrounded me…

It was God’s gift of grace.

God looked upon my weary soul;

It had been tried by fire.

He knew I needed someone

To lift my spirits higher…

Then, dear one, something changed;

You waltzed your way into my soul.

I had never felt such a charge,

Nor did I feel so fully - whole.

Years later and here we are;

Our love has intensified.

What we didn’t think could be

Has turned into a dynasty…

Of love and laughter, so much joy…

Of trials and sorrows, hard to bear…

Of longing and forgiveness – true

Unconditional love is ours to share.
