Christmas is a time for giving and what better gift for a grandparent is there than one which reminds them of their grandchildren?

Photographs and photo gifts

A photograph may seem obvious, but a nice picture of the grandchild or grandchildren in a specially chosen frame is a lovely gift. Choosing a picture of the grandparent with their grandchild could be a particularly special choice. There are alternative ways of presenting this gift. You could have the picture enlarged and put on canvas so that it can be put on the wall or you could have it turned into a mouse mat, mug or puzzle by one of the many firms offering photo gifts.

Alternatively you could choose a number of photographs and have them turned into a calendar. Many firms on the Internet offer this option. Upload your photographs to the website, design your calendar and you have a gift which will last the whole year. There are lots of different varieties available, both desk calendars and wall calendars, and some companies will allow you to highlight special days such as birthdays.

Digital photo frame

For a different take on this theme, you could buy a digital photo frame and upload lots of pictures of the grandchildren onto it before giving it as a gift. This way, you are giving the grandparents a slideshow of your carefully chosen pictures.

Home-made movie

Another idea is to use a camcorder to record a film to give as a gift. You could make a recording of a shared activity with the grandparents, such as a day out, or a special greeting from the grandchildren to their grandparents.

Days out

Making memories together is another great idea for a gift. Grandchildren can give their grandparents tickets to a show and take them to see it, thus giving them two presents – the tickets and their time.

Home-made vouchers

A great idea for a special gift is to make a voucher promising a special day such as a visit to a garden or the zoo with the grandchildren. Or you could promise your services, whether it is to cut the lawn every week or redecorate a room, depending on what the grandchild can offer.

Nostalgia

Grandparents can be nostalgic about things they did when they were young and so a present reminding them of their youth can be a very special gift. Try finding a book written for people born in the decade of their birth or a CD of music from their teenage years or try obtaining a copy of a newspaper issued on their wedding day. Make sure the grandchildren take the time to share the gift with their grandparents – because the best gift that they can give is that of their time.
