With the number of people who lost their jobs following the impact of the global recession, many people are constantly searching for jobs; and while some get lucky, others fall on the wayside with very little or no luck. The following tips should help you with your job search and hopefully be successful.
Check in your local papers
The very first thing you can do when searching for a job is to check your local newspaper. With the influx of technology, there are fewer jobs being listed in the newspaper, but that should not exclude the papers as a great stop for your job search. Moreover, the upper-hand is that most of the jobs listed are legitimate and local.
Take your job search online
The next step is to search the Internet. The best websites to use for job searches include Craigslist, Monster, and Indeed.
Craigslist is good because it is local and you are more likely to find listed jobs that are not listed in your local newspaper. Monster is a good job search site due to its popularity among employers. Indeed is a good site to use because it pulls data from many website and lists everything on one site.
Why are there more job listings online?
The reason why there are not too many jobs in the newspaper anymore is because it often costs money to list jobs in the newspaper. This is why companies and individuals are beginning to use the Internet to post jobs.
1. Craigslist
When an employer posts a job on Craigslist, it does not cost them a dime. It also does not cost the job seeker to search for a job on Craigslist.
The only problem the job seeker may have with Craigslist is possible scams in the jobs posted. This was a problem for a while as people were posting fake jobs in order to send scam e-mails.
2. Indeed
Indeed is definitely the best website to look for a job. As stated before, this website pulls data from many sites and lists the data all on one site. The Indeed website also gives the user a variety of options when they are searching for jobs.
The user can choose how far away from a city or zip code they want to look for jobs. There is also the option of using key words and picking a specific salary range. With all of these options, a job seeker can get very specific about the job they are searching for. This will help you avoid unwanted jobs and also save you time.
Between these two outlets, you should certainly be able to find a job. If all else fails, you can simply walk into local businesses and ask to fill out an application or submit your résumé.
If you are not picky about where you want to work, your best option is to go to your local fast food restaurants or the local shopping mall. These locations have a high turnover rate and tend to hire new employees more often.
Remember that you’re not the only one searching for a job, and that the same challenges and disappointments you face are not unique to you. So brave up and don’t leave any stone unturned, keep it up until you get that desired job!
