We all find that the older kids get, the harder it is to shop for them. By the time, they reach eight or nine, it seems like they have everything already, but here are a few ideas that are sure to delight your eight- or nine-year-old boy.  Think adventure, action, high energy, and creativity and you'll be on the right track to pleasing your boys with their new gifts!

1. Scribblenauts/ Superscribblenauts for DS: I know you're probably cringing at the thought of yet another video game for young boys, but this game is not only very entertaining, it requires quite a bit of ingenuity and creative problem-solving to master. As the mother of a now ten-year-old boy, I must admit that I have played Scribblenauts with my son and have been thoroughly engaged by the task of trying to solve puzzles and participate in action games using whatever pops into mind! Just type it in and see how your solution plays out.

2. Loopz: This is a high-energy memory game that has a variety of levels, requiring you to repeat one-handed and two-handed patterns of sound and light. Repeat the pattern in single-mode play or compete against friends and family.

The player is instructed to locate and touch a certain cone or solve a math problem and touch the cone representing the answer. Players compete to achieve the lowest completion time with the greatest accuracy.  The company has developed several new games based upon the same prinicipal. Loads of high-energy fun - perfect for active play on a cold or rainy day!

4. Razor Scooter: There are all sorts of scooters available these days: manual or electric, with different designs, but all equally fun. The most basic manual scooter is fun, affordable, and very portable so you can throw it in the trunk when you head out to a park or Grandma's house. Active play is important so buying fun toys that facilitate enjoying the outdoors is always a good idea.

5. Metal detector: A kid's metal detector is affordable and highly intriguing to our eight- and nine-year-old treasure-hunting boys! If you don't mind a few holes dug up in the yard,  the
