On theory it sounds simple. You have to deliver an outstanding performance that will impress the interviewer and will grant you the dream job. In the real world, the situation becomes more complicated.

The problem with job interviews is that the situation is specific and unique each time. Your appearance and behavior have to correspond to the situation and the development of the conversation between you and the interviewer.

Can you prepare in advance so that you minimize the chances of mistakes? Certain aspects of the interview remain universal regardless of the company or the person interviewing you. Naturally, preparation is of vital importance.

Your success during a job interview will depend on several factors. Your knowledge, experience, know-how, presentation skills, outfit and body language will all play a role.

Examine the company’s portfolio so that you have an idea about its projects and style.

If possible, contact some employees to find out more about the structure and processes. Anything that you discover in advance will help you perform better.

You need to master your presentation skills. Videotaping yourself or practicing in front of the mirror will help you spot mistakes and improve the manner in which you deliver information.

Practice your answers and think of the best ways to delicately avoid tricky questions. If possible, get a friend to help you practicing. Your friend could act as the interviewer. Video tape the exercise and watch it later to see yourself speaking.

Pay attention to your confidence and body language. You should also be able to provide meaningful answers. Refrain from revealing confidential information about your past employer or getting into much detail about issues that seem to be irrelevant to the position.
