Tourism Malaysia

As expected, the official tourism board of Malaysia offers a professional website full of all the bells and whistles.  The page design is clean and uncluttered, making it easy to find the various sections of the website.  The Malaysia blog is an interesting place to start if you've never thought about going to Malaysia.  Each blog entry offers an interesting look into a piece of Malaysian culture, whether a festival, food, or tradition.  

The "destinations" and "activities" tabs at the top of the page are useful in selecting locations and activities that suit your interests.  The "my discoveries" tab offers a variety of interesting insights from both the experts and real travelers.  Finally, the "plan your trip" feature makes it easy to save and share information, activities, and destinations.

Run by a native Malaysian, Travel Guide Malaysia seeks to offer "friendly unbiased updated travel information" and manages to do so in a simple but effective format.  It offers information starting from the basics and going on to more specialized information, like how to eat communal style. The guide spotlights popular destinations such as Kuala Lumpur and Penang as well as popular activities like diving and shopping.  Prominently located on the homepage, the FAQ also answers questions that real travelers have.  Travel Guide Malaysia is a useful source of local information that seeks to inform rather than promote.

Sabah Tourism Board Official Website

Malaysia is a country split in two:  part is located on the peninsula south of Thailand while the other half is located on the northern part of the island of Borneo.  Sabah is one of the provinces located on Borneo and so their travel website gives a good look at typical sights and activities available located in Borneo Malaysia.  The categories under "explore" offer an easy way to learn about Sabah and discover how and why to visit.

New York Times Travel Guide Malaysia

The New York Times uses their website to draw together a variety of previous travel articles on Malaysia into a travel guide.  Most of the information focuses on major destinations such as Kuala Lumpur and Sabah.  However all of the information is well written, accurate, and informative.  Most helpful are articles like "36 Hours in Kuala Lumpur" that give a focused look on one destination.
