The Healing Power Of Forgiveness: What The Bible Says About Forgiveness

This is what the bible says of forgiveness:

“But I say to you, love your enemies! Pray for those who persecute you!” Mathew 5:44. When we love those who don’t love, we teach them how to love, and miracles happen.

“A man’s wisdom gives him patience; it is to his glory to overlook an offense.” Proverbs 19:11 NLV. When we overlook a wrong done to us, the Lord overlooks our own offenses through grace.

“If your enemy is hungry, give him food to eat; if he is thirsty, give him water to drink.” Proverbs 25:21. You heal pain and inner torment when you forgive and love and end the cycle of evil.

“Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” Luke 23:34. Christ is the ultimate model for forgiveness, the one we should all follow.

“A new command I give you: Love on another, As I have loved you.” John 13:34.    -Love is forgiveness, love is compassion, all else is fear. Fear not, love will conquer all.

Our Duty Is To Forgive

It is the duty of all human beings that we show real kindness to all people, and that we exchange all evil with good. We do this through the act of forgiveness, which creates in us a noble character. We should embrace not just our brothers and our sisters in forgiveness, which is easy to do, but also those that hold a different opinion from ours. We must forgive those we hate, so that we do not limit the capacity of our hearts to love.

In doing so, the love we have inside becomes more like the unconditional love that God is. It is only then that we can begin to honor the grace that God bestows on us. We are remember, the mirror image of the holiness that belongs to the kingdom of God. When we forgive others, we honor the sacrifice paid when Christ accepted crucifixion on the cross for our sins.

Christ did not simply die on the cross. He forgave mankind for crucifying Him, he cried out to his Father, “Forgive them!” in the midst of his torture. He took on all the wrath of God, a tidal wave of pain and agony, a separation from His Creator, His father.

He did this so we could experience unconditional love! Who would do this? Surely, we can beg God to provide us the capacity to do the same, to forgive others, even our worst enemy, even those that curse us. If we bless those that curse us in passing, then those curses will be transformed into
