Let's face it: You're bound to get at least one gift that you really don't want this holiday season. Although it is the thought that counts, some things you just can not fathom seeing yourself wearing, eating, or displaying inside your home. You hate to just throw it out; after all it did cost money. Never to worry! There are plenty of great ideas for you to do with those unwanted holiday gifts!
*Re-Gift
Who says re-gifting is wrong? If you receive a gift that you absolutely do not want, you may know someone who will love it! You can give the gift to them for a birthday or other holiday of your choosing. Just be sure NOT to re-gift to the person who originally gave the item to you!
* Donate It
Many thrift stores depend on donations that they receive from the community to keep their stores running. There are many non-profit stores that use these donations to offer services in the community. Goodwill, for example, gives jobs to persons with disabilities who may not otherwise be able to find employment. In addition to thrift stores, there are plenty of other organizations that can use donations of all types for their programs. Domestic violence centers, homeless shelters, and animal shelters are just three ideas. Giving your unwanted gifts to an organization of this type is something you can feel good about doing, and just one way to help those less fortunate.
* Sell It
Depending on the unwanted item, there are several ways to get a little change for it. Clothing can be sold at consignment stores, many offering cash on the spot. Books, DVDs, and CDs are also great items to sale at area stores for cash on the spot. If there are stores offering consignment in your area, give them a call to see their policies on buying used items. You can also box the items up until summer and host a great garage sale!
* Give It Away
Perhaps there is a family member of friend that could use the item you do not want. Receiving something for nothing is always a nice gesture, and you can be sure the item will get plenty of use!
With these ideas you can be sure that the holiday gift you have received and do not want will get plenty of good use, even if it is not from you!
