Dr. Jack Kevorkian and the right to die debate

by Lyle 'Chip' Chipperson

Created on: November 26, 2010

Dr. Jack Kevorkian has done a great service and is an inspiration for those who favor the right to die. There are people out there who are very sick, they cannot be cured from the pain or they sadly cannot afford the medication to keep the pain away. And there are those suffering that cannot get to any place for help of curing their pain for the disease that they suffer from.

Dr. Jack Kevorkian did not charge a lot of money for those who were suffering from these diseases who wished to die, in fact, he basically charged just a little more money than what it costs per month on medications, sometimes even less. It all depended on Mr. Kevorkian's travel expenses; while people in or around Michigan got the least to pay (since he was based in Michigan). Heck, I think that's a good thing that he didn't charge up the wazoo for his services, while those who supply any medications deal with the financial burden for that.

Dr. Jack Kevorkian provided a service for those who didn't want to be a burden anymore, even to their families and those who support them, whether it's financially or emotionally. And sadly, he gets tossed into jail or prison for what he does. Charged for assisting in a death, or murder altogether for helping those who are in need.

I blame two parties for this, the politicians who push the law into the liberal christian favor, and those who lobby for the medications these people who could also be listed on a 'right to die' list. The religions to blame, Christianity and Money.

First, with Christianity, when Dr. Kevorkian is charged with the crime for his service, the law usually titles it 'assisted suicide.' The word suicide with some Christians is alarming, and regard suicide as a 'unforgivable sin.' The way they see it, God gave you a life, and you voluntarily end it? That's a big no-no. In addition to that, you get a swift boot to hell for this. According to my own research, assisted suicide goes under the same guidelines as taking your own life all by yourself (while recently, a Christian I spoke to disagrees with this). So, for those who involve religion in law will have the law say Dr. Jack can't do what he does, but they can't say exactly on the bill: “It's because that person who commits suicide will burn in hell.”

Plus, those who support that law have the gift to not be suffering from that disease that is painful while depending on expensive medication that doesn't offer much of a reduction of that pain and suffering, may need to
