It seems to me people thrive on gore in a movie. "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" is one of the most repulsive ever made and I'm amazed I watched it all the way through, but, I will watch most anything that was based on a true story and supposedly, it was.
Gore should be left out of movies. Maybe, not all, but, it seems, now, most movies are nothing but that.
"Psycho" had just enough gore with the shower scene. But, it also was mysterious in that, you couldn't really tell who was doing the stabbing. Of course, everyone assumed it was the mother, but, that shower curtain left a nagging doubt in my mind. Actually, the gore in that movie shouldn't have been left out. There was just enough to show how crazy the murderer was.
Today, there is just too much with people sawing people in half, cutting their limbs off, being scalped, you name it, it's being done and blood is in every scene. Lots of people love this type movie.
I am just old fashioned, I suppose. Give me a movie with a plot be it love, murder, war or whatever. Even tonight, we watched "Scrooge", "Snow White" and "Beauty and the Beast." Never have I sat through three of these but, they seemed quite refreshing.
It seems movies these days are filled with sex and blood. As I wrote the other morning around 2:00, I glanced over to the TV. A couple was having sex on the beach. I thought that was okay since the kids had gone to bed so I didn't bother to turn it. I went back to my writing and glanced at the TV maybe ten minutes later . This same couple was still going strong. That's when I turned it. I don't know if he had murder in his heart after sex or what but, I had no cravings to find out.
"The Fockers" are another type of movie I like - one that is so hysterically funny, you talk about it for days. Especially, since Robert de Niro stars in them and the crazy things he does - like inventing a false boob for the baby he has so badly spoiled.
Of course, I don't like violence but, in reality, there is violence and you never know when it might come your way with all the bloody gore.
