Christmas crafts: How to make your own Christmas cards

Created on: November 25, 2010

Sending Christmas cards is one way of keeping the spirit of Christmas alive and to express your love to your friends, relatives, and loved ones, Nowadays, you may post a printed card or email an electronic version. However, nothing is like making your own card where you can add your personal touch to it.

Making your own Christmas card is not as difficult as you may have thought.  All you need to have are the correct materials, the correct tools, and your creative mind. You may also make your own card on your computer with an appropriate software that you can download from the Internet or purchase from the store.

Here is how you can make your own Christmas card. To make your own card, get ready the following materials:

1. An A4 size white paper.

2. A sharpened pencil

3. Some crayons.

4. Color pencils especially black for the wordings.

5. Paper glue

Once you have collected all the materials, you can start making your card by following the instructions below:

1. Fold the A4 paper into half.

2. Apply glue to seal up the folding

3. Fold the A4 paper again in another half to make it into a black card.

4. Draw an outline of a Christmas scenery on the front cover of the your blank card with your pencil. When drawing, make sure you leave enough space for the main greeting which may include "Merry Christmas", "Season's Greetings", or any other appropriate greetings. You may draw a nativity scene, a Santa Claus, a Christmas tree, A snowman or anything that you feel that is great for Christmas. You may also get ideas from other Christmas cards. However, do not copy exactly what you are looking at.

5. Once you have finished drawing the outline, color your drawing with crayons.

6. Once you have completed coloring your drawing, start writing the main greeting with your black color pencil. The reason for using a black color pencil for the greeting is to avoid it from being smudged.

7. Once you completed working on the front cover of your card, open the card and write something nice on it or include a Christmas poem that is already in the public domain. You may also write a personal note instead.

If you have completed all the above steps, you have successfully made your own Christmas card. If you do not wish to draw, you may paste a photograph or some Christmas images that you can cut out from old magazines onto the front cover.

Another way of making your Christmas card is to use computer technology.  To use such technology, you need to have a printer to print out the card and a scanner if you with to scan a photo to to be added on the front of the card. Adding a photo make it a bit tricky. Therefore, you need a special card making software that you may download from the Internet or purchase from a store to make things easier for you.
