One of the great things about Helium is the wide variety of titles and earning potential available to writers. With such a large number of topics and titles combined with the seeming complexity of the payment system, it can be overwhelming to try and find your niche.
Here are some tips to consider when selecting titles for article submission.
1) Consider your area of expertise.
Everyone is an expert at something. Consider your hobbies, your pastimes or even your job. What are you good at? Is there something you have been doing for a very long time, something you have more experience in than the average person? Your knowledge on these topics is more valuable than you can imagine. It is important to consider each aspect of your life in order to determine where your area of expertise is. Remember, there are no limits. While one person may be an expert on financial planning, another might be an expert on gaining the perfect tension for knitting socks.
2) Consider the things you are passionate about
A passionate, emotional article or story is one that grabs the reader’s attention. Therefore, the best articles you can submit are on topics you are passionate about. Again, there are no limits but one must be careful on how the topics are broached. Passionate articles can often lead to a preaching narrative, which can drive the reader away. It is usually best to turn your passion to information and educate your readers on the topics you hold dear to your heart. Of course, it is always a wonderful addition to hear the author’s feelings on the subject - just be sure to keep it short and sweet.
3) How long will it take to complete the article?
One of the most important things to consider when writing on line is time. Time is money in this industry. Since sites like Helium pay their writers based on ad-share revenue, writers will want to submit as many articles as quickly as possible without compromising quality. Therefore, it is wise to avoid subjects you are not knowledgeable on or do not have the resources to research quickly. Many writers aim to complete 500-1500 word articles in 30 to 90 minutes.
4) How many titles will your article be competing with?
The great thing about Helium is that a single article will usually fit under numerous topics. This is important when considering what title to submit your article to. A topic with a lot of article submissions will result in poor ad share revenue and disqualification from other payment opportunities like Upfront Payments or Empty Title Bonuses. Take advantage of this extra earning opportunity - we writers need every penny we can get.
5) When all else fails, seasonal articles are great periodic earners.
When you are really stumped for titles, seasonal articles never fail. Every month of the year has some holiday or celebration that people will be searching the web for. Be sure to write about next month’s holiday, else you might find weak earnings. You can also write about celebrations in other cultures and regions.
Websites such as Helium offer great opportunities to writers of all level to gain exposure and earn while doing so. The trick to success is to be sure you understand and all of your earnings potential, where you can offer the best quality articles and having a fail safe plan while contributing content regularly.
