Runescape skill guide: Fishing

by Aristotle

Created on: November 25, 2010

By far one of the most profitable skills in the game, fishing is incredibly useful and almost necessary for a good account. The concept is quite simple, you need some form of device to catch fish, you might need bait for some fish types and for other fish types you might need specific quests done to access the fish. At higher levels fishing by sharks, rocktails, cavefish, or monkfish, huge amounts of money can be made in a short time. Make it your goal to get to these high fishing levels, whether it be for the status of having a high fishing level, or for the money made from fishing.

At levels 1 through 15 just use a regular net and catch shrimp at Draynor Village. By level 15 you can catch anchovies, which surprisingly are worth quite a bit. Keep fishing anchovies until level 30 fishing, you should have made a decent amount of money off the anchovies by this time as well. Buy a fly fishing rod and around one thousand feathers. Now head off to the Barbarian Village and start fishing at the river there. Continue fishing here until you have a full inventory and then bank at Edgeville bank. Repeat this process until you run out of feathers. When you're out of feathers, simply sell all the trout and salmon you have caught in the Grand Exchange, you should have multiplied your money several times over here and should now be able to buy more and more feathers.

Continue fly fishing at the Barbarian Village until around level 70 fishing. While you could technically fish swordfish and lobsters before this, it is a very slow process until you reach around level 70 fishing. Now head too Port Sarim with around one thousand gp, buy a harpoon at the fishing store there, and then proceed to take the boat to Karamja. Go a bit north and then enter the big banana plantation, go through the plantation until you come to a little dock with several fishing spots. Commence fishing swordfish here, keep the tuna you fish as well. When you have a full inventory, simply exit the plantation and go a little north of the general store. Soon you'll see a man named Miles who'll turn your regular fish into notes, now head back to the fishing platform and fish and another load. Repeat this process as much as you want. For non-member players, this really is the best money you can make off fishing.

For members on the other hand at level 76 fishing sharks become available. However, the are incredibly slow at level 76, instead raise your fishing to around level 85 by fishing monkfish. Completion of the Swan Song quest is required to fish monkfish though. Once you can fish sharks, continue to do so until you reach level 99 fishing. By level 99 fishing you should have made a good hundred to two hundred million gp.
