Iron ore is one of the most widely mined ores in Runescape. This is mainly true because iron ore provides fast experience and can be sold for a decent amount of money. Level 15 mining is required in order to mine this ore, however, at this level it is slow and inefficient. Instead of mining the ore at level 15 mining, mine copper / tin / clay ore until level 30 mining. At level 30 mining, mining iron ore is a lot faster compared to level 15. At this point you should also be using either a mithril, adamant, or rune pickaxe.

There are many different locations which iron ore can be mined at, the most popular among these are the Falador mines. The Falador mines are located in the north-east section of Falador. There should be a little building with some stairs leading into a dungeon, climb down and you'll be at the mines. Lower levels should be wary of the scorpions and king scorpions as they can be potentially dangerous. Look around the mine and find the iron ore, this mine is even more useful at higher levels because of the adamant, mithril, coal, clay, copper, and tin rocks located here. At this point you have two options. If you don't have level 15 dungeoneering then you have to walk to the Falador bank and bank your ores there. If you do have 15 dungeoneering then there is a reward dungeon entrance located right next to the iron rocks. Simply enter the entrance, bank your ores in the deposit box, exit, and start mining the rocks again.

While the Falador mines are a good location to mine at, it can get crowded at times. Another good location is located just south of the south-east side of Varrock. In this much smaller mine there are a few iron rocks which are usually quite empty of people. Simply mine these rocks and either walk back to the bank or teleport to Varrock and bank your ores.

While the previously mentioned methods are decent, they are usually only used by non-member accounts. Members have much greater access to teleports and locations. Members also have access to the construction skill, allowing them to make their own house. The first step here is to change your house location to Rimmington. Then, teleport to your house, run to the Rimmington mine, mine the iron ore, teleport to castle wars arena with a dueling ring when you have a full inventory, and then teleporting to your house again. This is a very fast and efficient method for getting the iron ore and banking it quickly.
