Poetry: Tell me why

by Barbara Stanley

Created on: November 24, 2010   Last Updated: January 09, 2012

You say you do not love me now,

but can not tell me why.

You will not tell me when or how

or what caused your love to die.

You don't put your arms around me

or kiss me on the cheek.

It's as if you do not see me

as we drift from week to week.

You swear there is no other love,

but I can feel the lie.

Let me go and find a new love

if you won't tell me why -

I can not bear to live with you

if you can't tell me why.

I know that you have not been true,

and all your words are lies.

I've added up all the clues

and I will say goodbye.

You don't have to tell me why,

I think I know what's true.

You want fun on the sly

and to keep me loving you.

But it won't work, I won't cry.

I'll keep on leaving you.

If people stop to ask me why

that I am leaving you,

I will tell not tell them any lie,

but how you've been untrue.
